Shell with SCB in launching Digital Cashless Station for QR Code Payment

Shell Company of Thailand (SCOT) today organized the “Making Life’s Journey Better with Cashless Station” press conference to underscore its commitment to provide the latest innovations to Thai consumers by partnering with Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) in launching QR Code Payment for fuels for the first time in Thailand.

Through this partnership, Shell and SCB are piloting the first Digital Cashless Station at the Shell Lert Trakarn station opposite Siam Commercial Bank’s Head Office in Ratchayothin, offering a convenient experience to consumers while also supporting Thailand’s move towards a cashless society as part of government’s “Thailand 4.0” initiative to drive into the future.

The partnership with Siam Commercial Bank to develop the “Dynamic QR Code” with “SCB Easy Cashier” machine will further fulfill our purpose of “Making Life’s Journey Better”.

The QR code payment will give customers a convenient and secure option to pay by scanning the QR code from the mobile banking application of any banks with their mobile phones.

Motorists will be able to pay for their fuels with the QR Code in a Drive-in Pay Station, the designated “safe-zone” area for the use of mobile phones to comply with Ministrial regulations: Oil station, B.E. 2552 (2009).

Shell aims to extend the QR Code Payment system to all non-oil units, including Shell Select convenience stores, deli cafés and Shell Helix Oil Change+ Stations across Thailand by mid-2018.

Adopting QR Code Payment will also enhance operation efficiency of the Shell station’s by improving better cash and account management and raising safety of frontline staffs.

Apiphan Charoenanusorn, Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Operations, Retail Products and Retail Payment, Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) said: “In response to the government’s National e-Payment strategic plan, Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) is set to help promote a Cashless Society in Thailand by developing smartphone payment systems featuring the QR system to increase convenience, speed and security.

The partnership with a market leader like Shell is another historic milestone for the energy industry in the Thailand 4.0 era, allowing consumers to experience the first full-scale cash station in the market. We predict the convenience afforded to consumers will lead to more than 1,000,000 QR code registrations within this first of operation.

In addition to convenience, Shell QR code customers will rest assured transactions are handled with the highest levels of security as we continue to introduce innovative financial services to address customer needs in line with our goal to ‘be everything for all digital lifestyles’.”

The Shell Lert Trakarn station opposite Siam Commercial Bank’s Head Office is serving as the first pilot for the Digital Cashless Station and will allow motorist to pay for fuels via Dynamic QR Code -using the “SCB Easy Cashier” machine, an All-in-One Super Electronic Data Capture (EDC) device for debit card, credit card , QR code, other future payment methods and contactless payment.

Motorist can experience the QR Code Payment via the mobile banking applications of any banks. In addition to fuels, motorists will also be able to pay for the full facilities offered by the station with the QR code payment including oil change services at the Shell HELIX OILCHANGE+ centre, bakery items and beverages at deli café and other services such as car wash.

The pilot Cashless Station with the QR Code Payment at the Shell Lert Trakarn opposite Siam Commercial Bank’s Head Office will be available for all motorists to experience from 9 January 2018 onwards. Moreover, Shell aims to roll out the QR Code Payment system to all non-oil units, including Shell Select convenience stores, deli cafés.

And Shell Helix Oil Change+ Stations across Thailand by mid-2018 in order to enhance customer convenience and to respond to the national policy of creating a completely cashless society as part of Thailand 4.0 initiative in the future.
